Cardiotec Medical Green Policy
Method Statement
The below document can be considered, in its entirety a “Method Statement” on the basis that the implementation monitoring and reporting of the below is a complete solution.
Life Cycle Impact
Cardiotec Medical Is an authorised Distributor of EDAN Medical UK., and the following will encompass activities being undertaken by EDAN Instruments being the manufacturer, and Cardiotec Medical being the sales and support arm of the parent company in the UK.
In line with EDAN UK, Cardiotec Medical has been reviewing and reducing our Carbon Footprint over the last five years to the extent that all internal communications are now paper free, as are many communications between ourselves and customers.
Cardiotec Medical are consistently looking to reduce their carbon footprint with regard to working with companies committed to this goal, and as demonstration of this in 2018 EDAN Instruments consolidated their R &D, manufacturing and administration under one roof, thus reducing their total carbon footprint significantly, this will have a long term impact on their contribution towards reducing their overall carbon footprint. They are constantly sourcing component parts from third parties and from those components creating the products which are sold around the world. This action further reduces their carbon footprint. Regarding distribution EDAN Instruments are constantly refining equipment packaging to include an increasing amount of recycled or recyclable materials. As their distributor Cardiotec Medical will do as much as possible to replicate the standards set by their principle.
Cardiotec Medical have recently moved to requesting shipment of product by sea where possible and practical rather than by air, sometimes by order, however large or small. We are achieving a significant reduction in our carbon footprint by consolidation of orders in both packaging and frequency. Cardiotec Medical are now refining their packaging materials to be recyclable and we have contracts with organisations that can recycle the packing material which in previous years we would have discarded. We also re-use many of the boxes equipment is delivered to us in, multiple times, when sending equipment out to hospitals on short term loan for trials etc. We have also consolidated our office and warehouse functions under one roof to reduce our overall carbon footprint.
We are constantly advising our suppliers, which includes EDAN Medical UK, that we require packaging, where possible, to be recyclable and to that extent, all packaging with the exception of the shock absorbing packaging surround the equipment itself, is now recyclable.
We are actively sourcing couriers that are also committed to reducing their carbon footprint, thus contributing to reducing carbon emissions.
Regarding the product we sell, they are provided to our end customer, in recyclable packaging and where a customer is not committed to recycling, we remove the packaging and process it ourselves.
When equipment comes to the end of its life, and the hospital Trust approaches to remove the end-of-life equipment, we either break the equipment down and dispose of it, re-sell it through auction, or offer it for third world usage. All of the previously mentioned options are appropriately managed in terms of traceability.
All field-based personnel provided with company cars are required to consider either Hybrid powered cars, or full EV’s.
It is only recently that we have started to monitor the improvements in sustainability from both our parent company and the third parties we interface with in the UK. We always strive to work with organisations who actively partake in projects such as planting of trees to offset their carbon emissions, and where we can we are encouraging other organisations to offer similar strategies. Equally when booking flights and hotels for business use, we are conscious of the airlines/hotels commitment to carbon off-set and here possible we select an airline with a defined carbon offset programme.
Most recently, Edan Medical UK have employed a consultant to assist in measuring their current carbon emissions, Cardiotec medical, with Edan Medical UK, are now taking advice on further reducing our carbon footprint, and are now actively working with them in encouraging the organisations we interface with in the UK to do the same.
All of the above is our “Method Statement” which is designed to achieve zero emissions by 2035.
